Episode 3 of trails radio Featuring the Grand Mesa Back Country Horsemen
The third episode of GVTA trails radio, United on Trails, was Wednesday August 8th. The show featured a conversation with Jan Potterveld, the Vice President of the Grand Mesa chapter of the Back Country Horsemen and Chairman of the state organization.
Grand Mesa Back Country Horsemen
It was wonderful to have Jan in the studio with me. I have had the opportunity to spend some good time with Jan in meetings, on trails and now on the air and he is a real pleasure to spend time with. And it was great to learn more about the efforts and focus of the Grand Mesa Back Country Horsemen (GMBCH). The local chapter has an amazing impact on trails in the area. They are involved in trail building and maintenance, they have been very involved in planning and management efforts with the BLM and Forest Service and the Back Country Horsemen are always helping out other trail organization by providing heavy lifting capabilities. The GMBCH are leaders in the trails community.
You can find out more about their organization online at GMBCH.com. I hope you will consider getting involved in the local chapter.
Volunteer Impact of the Back Country Horsemen
During our conversation on trails radio, Jan shared with me some amazing information. The volunteer impact of the national organization of the Back Country Horsemen in 2011 was incredible. They contributed more than 300,000 hours of volunteer work totally almost $11M donated. Amazing support of trails!
