The fourth episode of Trails Radio on KAFM welcomed Katie Steele of the Riverfront Commission into the studio. The Riverfront Commission is the organization that has lead the effort to plan and build the Colorado Riverfront Trail over the past 25 years. This amazing project has taken countless hours and received the support of the community creating an amazing trail system.
Through the 25 years, the Riverfront Commission has developed an amazing trail that runs along one of the great rivers of the West and enjoys the beauty and peace afforded by the Colorado River. The trail runs from 33 Rd near Palisade all the way to the Walter Walker Wildlife Area near Fruita. The newest section that was part of Phase 1, the Monument View section, was just completed this summer and is a fantastic addition to the trail system. Phase 2 is on schedule to begin in the next few months and will connect the Fruita Visitors Center to 18 Rd. Phase 3 is scheduled for 2014 and will link the Phase 2 section with the Monument View section and create a spectacular corridor of trail all the way to Fruita. For lots more information about the Riverfront trail and how you can help in this effort, please check out the Riverfront Commission’s website. And if you want to hit the trail, download a map!
