Parking Area Construction to Temporarily Close Road
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management(BLM) Grand Junction Field Office is constructing a new Off-Highway Vehicle trailhead parking area in Bangs Canyon, temporarily restricting access to a popular local trail.
Bangs Canyon’s Third Flats Road will be closed through mid-October during construction for the new Third Flats Parking Area. The parking area will accommodate up to 40 vehicles, giving visitors better access to Third Flats Road. Roadside parking will be reduced, thereby enhancing public safety and resource protection.
“The new parking area will allow for easier access to the Third Flats ATV trails. This project will improve trail riding experiences in the area as there are great narrow trails most people don’t know exist,” said Western Slope ATV Association President Steve Chapel.
“We’re excited to complete this OHV trailhead and parking area,” said Grand Junction Field Office Manager Katie Stevens. “It will give people a safer option for parking their vehicles rather than pulling off on the shoulder of Little Park Road. This parking area will give those riding in the Third Flats and greater Bangs Canyon area a better way to get to our world class OHV trails.”
The Third Flats Road will be closed from Little Park Rd to just above Quad Rocker Loop. Visitors can still access the area from the south via Billings Canyon Road, through the Bangs Canyon Trailhead.
